I thougth this was related to my former suscriber condition and that I had switched the "Hide Head" control by the time I changed to Preferred. But then it occured on another outfit slot on the same char, a new one created as a preferred status player. Now finally this behaviour has spread to a recently created outfit slot of my Smuggler.

Bioware, I am founder, beta tester, and sub. However you Promised Prefered status players would get 6 character slots instead of 2, and the hide helm slot toggle would be up them as well, Unlocked.
